Emergency
Gas Service Tips:
Home
Energy does not provide emergency gas service.
IF
YOU SMELL GAS, you MUST leave the building immediately
and go to a safe location
to
call
your
gas supplier for emergency service.
If
You Smell Gas...
- Leave
the building IMMEDIATELY. Do not use a phone or cell
phone in your building.
Using
any type of telephone could ignite the leaking gas.
- Do
not use lighters or matches. If possible eliminate
any source of ignition. Do not try to re-light a pilot
light or strike a match. Do
not smoke.
- Do not
touch any light switches or other electrical switches or
turn any appliances on or off. Anything electrical could
cause a spark and ignite leaking gas. Do not activate
your electric garage door opener to leave your
house.
The internal circuitry of the motor in the door opener
could ignite the leaking gas.
- Call
your gas supplier from a safe location outside and away
from your
house,
like from a neighbor's house.
- Follow
the gas suppliers instructions. Leave
gas furnaces, water heaters and other gas appliances alone.
Get out of the house immediately.
- If your gas supplier
is KeySpan, their
Gas Emergency number is 1-800-490-0045. If you use a different
supplier of natural gas, or if you use propane,
call your gas supplier from a safe location.
- Gas
Customers: No Heat or No Hot Water? Please
check before you call:
- If
you don't smell gas, and gas burner won't
start...
- Check
to see that the switch is on (blue or red switch located
at
top of the cellar stairs or near the boiler)
- Make sure that
the circuit breaker or fuse is not blown.
- If your heating
system still does not start, and you do not
smell gas, call us for service at (631) 243-5100.
Emergency
Oil Service Tips:
- No
Heat or No Hot Water? Please check before you
call:
- If oil burner won't start...Check
to see that the switch is on (red switch located at
top of the cellar
stairs or on the boiler)
- Make sure that
the circuit breaker or fuse is not blown.
- Check your
fuel storage tank gauge to see if you have oil.
- Press
reset button one time only.
- If your
heating system still does not start,
call for service at (631) 243-5100.
Emergency
Air Conditioning Service Tips:
- No
Cold Air? Please check before you call:
- Check to
see that the outside condensor unit is not blocked,
and that air can flow freely around the unit. Lawn chairs,
bags of leaves or trash, or other items
can block
the flow of air. The unit needs to draw air into the
system in order to have
something to cool and blow out inside, but the process
is hindered if it cannot pull enough air in from outside.
- Make sure
that the circuit breaker or fuse is not blown.
- Be
sure the thermostat is set in the cooling mode. Just
setting the dial below room temperature will not activate
the air conditioning if it is set in the heat mode.
- Call us at
631-243-5100 if your AC still does not work.
Emergency
Pool Heater Service Tips:
(Please
note: We only service Oil and Natural
Gas Pool Heaters. Sorry, no propane, solar or heat pumps.)
- Cold
Pool Water? Heater won't
ignite? Please
check before you call:
- Check to see
that the switch is on
- Make sure that
the circuit breaker or fuse is not blown.
- Is the thermostat up to temperature?
- Is the pump running
with a clean filter less than or equal to 16 psi on pressure
gauge?
- Is the gas valve in the on position?
- Is the pilot lit?
- Is the gas supply valve open?
- Are all plumbing and filter valves open?
- If a bypass is installed, is it
properly adjusted?
- Call us at
631-243-5100 if you still cannot find the problem.
